Baby by Annaleese Jochems6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() She embodies an unpleasantness that’s uncomfortable, and fails to emit any sympathy due to her irrational and thoughtless reactions to the slightest inconveniences. She’s compulsive, childish, narcissistic and so listless. Firstly, Cynthia is an angering antiheroine. There are three elements of the book which are unbelievably frustrating. ![]() So, they take all of Cynthia’s father’s money, drive off and purchase ‘Baby’ the boat, where very unsettling events unfold. One day, Anahera appears at her door, proclaiming a broken marriage and a need to get away. Her only productive activity is attending fitness instructor Anahera’s aerobics classes and lusting after her. The book follows 21-year-old Cynthia who’s listless, lazy and just waiting for her life to start. She’s not trying to impress anyone, which is really refreshing. I don’t think that Analeese Jochems particularly cares if its liked. But I think that’s precisely the point of it. Whilst reading it, my face contorted in disgust, I rolled my eyes, my stomach flipped. Baby is one of those novels that knocks you for six. ![]()
